Curriculum Overview
At Thinkerland Preschool, we use the Nurturing Early Learners Framework (NEL) to plan for our curriculum. The 6 learning areas hold utmost importance to us as we feel that it is necessary for children to learn and develop holistically. The NEL framework allows us to provide opportunities to children to grow holistically.

Overview
Term 1 - Me, Myself, I
For Term One, children explored different parts of the human body. The theme chosen is “Me, Myself, I”, a discovery and many hands-on activity programs. Each level explored different parts of the human body and how they function. For N1, they learned about emotions, how to identify and recognize them. For N2, they got to explore different body parts and even got to see a life size skeleton! For K1, they discovered their five senses, sight, touch, taste, smell, hear. For K2, they will be learning about the functions of the body system. With lots of exploring, they will begin to understand how the different body parts come to place together!
Term 2 - Animals
Term Two is going to be a fun and memorable term as the theme is “animals”! For N1, children will be exploring animals in the farm. We will be making use of familiar songs like “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” to teach our young children the different animal sounds and words which can enhance their vocabulary and learn to practice the many sounds we use in English. For N2, they will get the chance to explore animals in the wildlife. We will be showing them the wildlife animals in Singapore and where they are located. For K1, children will be exploring the animals habitat, how the environment of animals is like and how they survive in the wild. For instance, with the experience of the Zoo Excursion Trip that we have listed as one of our events. For K2, they will be exploring the animals that are endangered, why are they endangered and what we could do to help.
Term 3 - Healthy Living
Term Three is where children learn what is a healthy living.
For N1, children will explore the different healthy foods, where they could be found and why they are healthy for them. For N2, children will discover the 5 food groups and find out why they are grouped together. For K1, we will be introducing them to the food plate, finding out what consists inside the plate. For K2, children will be exploring the food pyramid. We will show them a real life diagram of the pyramid and get them to fill up the different levels of the food pyramid.
Term 4 - Environment
For Term four, the theme is “environment”. We hope that children will pay more attention and explore their surroundings after this term! For N1, they will be exploring their neighbourhood and places that are in it, like the grocery, park, playground etc. For N2, they will be learning about the seasons, we will let them try to recreate the season in the classroom with daily materials. For K1, they will be exploring the 3Rs, Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. We will be showing them how the 3Rs are done and where they could participate in their very own neighbourhood. For K2, children will be learning the ecosystem, a community or group of living organisms that live in and interact with each other in a specific environment.
