Curriculum Overview
At Thinkerland Preschool, we use the Nurturing Early Learners Framework (NEL) to plan for our curriculum. The 6 learning areas hold utmost importance to us as we feel that it is necessary for children to learn and develop holistically. The NEL framework allows us to provide opportunities to children to grow holistically.
Curriculum Framework
Thinkerland’s curriculum framework is strongly aligned with NEL iTeach (NEL, 2013), an acronym for six principles to guide your planning, designing and facilitation of learning experiences for children. We adopt this framework as the basis of our practices to build a more engaged learning environment while helping children combine different skills in different activities. With the role of our teachers as active facilitators of children’s learning, our teaching strategies expose children to a more balanced approach as opposed to an isolated subject or learning domain. By engaging children in learning through purposeful play opportunities, we unleash their creativity through exploration of their environment as they take charge of their own learning. We believe that the connections children make with things that are familiar to them in the real world context will optimise learning to their full potential.
