Lesson Overview

Farm Animals

Lesson on: Drawing and writing

In this lesson, children will learn about the definition of endangered animals and their causes. The children discovered facts that caused animals like Amur Leopard and Brown Pelican to be endangered due to loss of habitats, pollution and overhunting/overfishing. This lesson was integrated with Aesthetic & Creative expression and Language & Literacy as the children got to draw their favourite animal and write down sentences.

In this lesson, children will be able to:

1. Define an endangered animal.

2. Identify why animals become endangered.

Objectives:

Teaching Techniques

Teaching Technique 1: Documentation

Documentation is the process of including samples of children’s work at several different stages of completion along with comments and explanation of activity. This is to track children’s learning and thinking.

(Seitz, 2008)

Facilitation is the process of providing children with directions and feedback to guide in the task.

The video displayed few facilitation strategies such as asking questions and repeating what the children had shared.

(MacNaughton & Williams, 2009)
