Curriculum Overview
At Thinkerland Preschool, we use the Nurturing Early Learners Framework (NEL) to plan for our curriculum. The 6 learning areas hold utmost importance to us as we feel that it is necessary for children to learn and develop holistically. The NEL framework allows us to provide opportunities to children to grow holistically.

Teaching Techniques
Teaching Technique 1: Scaffolding
Scaffolding describes the process of providing temporary guidance and support to children moving from one level of competency to another.
These guidance can be verbal or non-verbal.
Facilitating refers to the process of making a child's learning easier by providing explicit directions, materials and encouraging independence through self-discovery.
Teaching Technique 2: Facilitation
(MacNaughton & Williams, 2009)
(Fair et al. 2005)
Teaching Technique 1: Scaffolding

For tuning in activity
Teacher Celest asked "Where do you think animals lived?" Jasmine answered "zoo" which was not entirely correct. Teacher celest then further asked " What are the different place in the zoo? Remember the cold place?" Children were then able to answer the question correctly.
00:30-00:45

For main activity
Jia Hui placed her animal in the desert which is supposed to be in the greenland. It appears that she had classified it incorrectly. Which I then scaffold her with questions that lead to her understanding why it should be classified in another different habitat.
02:19-02:36
Teaching Technique 2: Facilitation

Through out the whole lesson, different habitats were displayed very clearly for children to see. Providing them with visible materials to facilitate them better through the lesson.
00:45-04:45

01:44-03:00
Cards with animals printed on it were given to children and aid them in classifying the different habitats.

04:48 - 05:00
Introducing the word habitat, relating it to their daily life by providing an example, " habitat is like your house" so the children would better understand.
